We are so blessed to have these gorgeous, one-off, hand-made creations by local, Bay of Plenty artisan Leanne Davis. Leanne loves all things vintage and has long been an inspiring textile artist. Each of these brooches has a wee story that has love and meaning, as you will see by Leanne’s descriptions below, perfectly timed with Anzac Day almost upon us.

A very Feminine and again natural piece…for the girl that loves detail this piece has a lot of subtle layering…that is the French Island girl and perhaps appealing to the gentle soul.
Quite a strong piece visually due to the war ribbon of the strong red black and white [Maori] combined with the old ivory piece [Pacific Islander] .
It represents and is combination of Pacific Island and Maori Peoples of New Zealand.
A slight French Pacific feel [which I love to do] this piece is layered in linen and stripes with old vintage gold pieces…I love mother of pearl especially with linen. It is a combination of Victorian, pacific and military.
Often I start with a piece…could be the medal ..the fabric ..the vintage piece…or in this case …it was this beautiful French trim…the colouring over the very old velvet ribbon along with the medal has a Victorian look and is very French Glam.
Another Unsung Heroines Brooch…This Girl was strong and brave…
This piece has been Curated like a museum piece…it is shows the strong connection of the Pacific Island life with the presence of the Mother of Pearl and that of the church represented by the cross [which I think is tortishell]
Again layered and the long stitches to feel like it is held together…the roman nos for age….the “I” scribble over with stitches but I liked it there all the same.
